Field characters: Straggling shrub, flower buds enclosed by a large bract, brownish green in color, the plant spiny. Not common.

Locality: Xieng Khouang Province, Kham District, Kham Medicinal Biodiversity Preserve, 15 km from Kham town.

Habitat: Broadleaved evergreen submontane forest. Edge of forest along road.

Altiude: 1130 m asl
